SleepyMotionvs
Captions.

Captions, now Mirage, gives you caption templates that sit in the same spot every time, and an AI avatar for ads. Sleepy Motion places every word around your subject, behind it if you want, and makes ads from your website. On the free plan, Sleepy makes ads and captions. Captions asked us to upgrade before any AI. Here is what each one does, with a source for everything we say about Captions.

The short answer

Pick Sleepy Motion if

  • You want captions placed around your subject, not stamped in one spot
  • You want captions behind the subject, automatically
  • You want ads and captions on the free plan, before you pay

Pick Captions if

  • You want an AI avatar to present instead of filming yourself

Where the captions go
Sleepy MotionPlaced word by word around the subject: where each word goes, how big, how it wraps around the person, a pet or a product, while they move.
CaptionsFixed templates (Prism Pro, Lens, Vista, Pop...) that put the text in the same spot. In its own Prism Pro preview, the words run across the speaker's face.[1]
Captions behind the subject
Sleepy MotionAutomatic, for the whole video, from one upload. Free on videos up to 15 seconds.

An ad from your website
Sleepy MotionType "make an ad for yoursite.com": logo, font, brand colors, photos and tone taken from the site, a finished ad in about 2 minutes, on the free plan too.
CaptionsIts help describes a product-page URL turned into a video with an AI avatar. In our test, it let us pick an avatar and then asked us to upgrade before making anything.[2]

Already have an AI clip? Finish it in Sleepy.

A generated shot looks good but says nothing. Bring it into Sleepy Pro and it builds the text, the story and the sound into the scene: words that walk through it, timed to a script, with sound effects to the millisecond. The best of AI, finished like a human editor would.

Don't take our word for it

Both came straight out of Sleepy Motion. Every word was placed around the speaker by Sleepy, not stamped in a template spot. The ad was made from one sentence, “make an ad for nike.com”, with nothing uploaded.

Questions

Does Captions put captions behind the subject?

Not that we could find: its caption styles are fixed templates, and none goes behind the speaker. In its own Prism Pro preview the words run across the speaker's face. Sleepy Motion captions the whole video behind the subject automatically, every word placed around it, free on videos up to 15 seconds.

Can Captions make an ad from my website?

Its help describes turning a product-page URL into a video with an AI avatar. When we tried on October 25, 2026, it let us pick an avatar and then asked us to upgrade before making anything. Sleepy Motion makes the ad from your website address, on the free plan too, with your logo, font, colors and photos taken from the site.

Is Captions free?

There is a free version, but its plan table lists no AI credits, and in our test every AI feature asked us to upgrade. Max is $24.99 a month, or $224.99 a year, and watermark-free exports start there. Sleepy Motion has a free plan with captions behind the subject and ads included, and paid plans from $5 a month.

Is Captions the same as Mirage?

Captions is rebranding as Mirage, and its ad videos are made with Mirage, its own generative video model, billed per second of video. Sleepy Motion does not hand your request to a video model: its engine writes the script, cuts out your products and times every word and sound.
